What is Reiki Healing?

Reiki (ray-kee)  is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing in the body, mind and spirit.   It is based in the recognition that we are all made of a life force energy that keeps us alive and functioning.   Reiki balances and strengthens the life force energy, or chi, by reducing blocks to energy flow through the body’s energy pathways.  Reiki helps to release areas of excess and stagnation of chi, which contribute to stress and illness.  Reiki also assists with helping an individual draw in chi energy when deficient.  This chi is not from the practitioner, but is through the practitioner, and comes from the surrounding universal energy field, which permeates all of life. 

There is now research showing that Reiki treatment can be effective for relaxation, pain management, reduced anxiety and depression, and enhanced well-being.  The following are some other commonly reported benefits of Reiki treatment:

A standard Reiki session lasts 1 hour, whereby the recipient will be lying down, fully clothed on a massage table.  I will then place my hands over different areas of the body that correspond to the different energy centers in the body and allow the pure Reiki energy to flow through me into the recipient.
